NHBC Cases Reflection!

Hello everyone! My name is Yash Uppal and I am a Grade 9 student at Unionville High School. Today I had the pleasure to attend the National Business Conference. Through the keynote speakers, I've learned about the story of how they got in the place that they are in today.

The entire day was filled with amazing workshops, a case study and guests who were extremely passionate and helped us high school students in finding our career pathways.

A guest speaker came in the morning who works with the CPA and gave us an overview of what forensic accounting is and the experiences that he has dealt with in this profession. This was really unique and opened an opportunity in different careers within CPA.

We also had two amazing workshops/panels that were presented to us by the Illuminate universe and CPA Ontario team. Both of these workshops were an amazing and unique experience. I've learned a lot about mental fitness and the importance of it. During the panel, they explained that the post-secondary students had focused on the significance of mental and physical health and told us how to calm ourselves when we are in situations that bring out our negative side. Even though this information is available online, it was nice to have someone explain it with real life examples!

The most enjoyable part of this event was the case studies! This case study was definitely something that increased my curiosity, and it allowed students to think outside of the box which enhanced our critical thinking. I enjoyed finding and creating a solution for this and it was great to see that the CPA forensic keynote speech was related with the case.

Overall, this was an amazing experience that we shared with Illuminate that I didn't know I was going to be so interested and inspired in. But, I'm extremely glad that I attended it and had such a great time being apart of this event! I am looking forward for future Illuminate Universe events!
