My experience at NHBC

Hi everyone! My name is Tia and I am a Grade 10 student at Garth Webb Secondary School. Today I had the pleasure to attend The National High School Business Conference. Here are my thoughts highlighting what I learned about. I learned so much about Business and Finance careers like the CPA profession. On top of that I got the opportunity to learn about Mental Health and University options through well organized workshops. Within the workshops I learned about how SOFT skills are super important, the three core muscles that constitute your mental fitness, what a survivor brain is, and the things that you never would have thought accountants do.

During the conference I had the opportunity to listen to University students discussing post-secondary options and more. This really helped clarify what my future could look like and steps on getting there. I learned that unexpected opportunities will arrive and you never know what you may concur next. When one door shuts another one opens.

Besides, there was a super fun and challenging competition at the end. It was a CPA challenge where you had to solve a crime. If you love a good mystery and love the world of finance this is 100% for you! This study case was one of my first ones and I am happy to say that I have learned a lot from it and am super excited to be able to do another one in the future.

Overall, this experience has taught me the wide variety of work that can be done in Business. It has also taught me the skills needed to succeed in this field like leadership, a good mentality, communication and more. Definitely recommend!
