Illuminate x Markham

Hi everyone! My name is Bernie Wang and I am a Grade 11 student at Markville Secondary School. Today, I had the pleasure to attend Illuminate x Markham’s regional conference. Here are my thoughts highlighting what I learned today.

The entrepreneurship conference really helped improve my creativity and critical thinking skills. It definitely showcased many more opportunities I can try in the future.

Christal’s presentation regarding the theory of change was definitely an eye opener into different industries and their work. By exploring the source of the many issues arising in our society, we are able to form a plan to combat these problems. Through the brainstorming session we did in our own groups, it really benefited what issues I am passionate about exploring in my future career.

As well, I really enjoyed Mash’s presentation and charisma. As somebody who does not necessarily know much about the world of cybersecurity, his information was extremely valuable in regards to future pathway choices. The responsibilities and operations focused around this career such as incident responses, cyber maturity assessments and cyber awareness truly show how it can “champion positive change” in society. Moreover, I really enjoyed the scenario he put out, allowing the audience to critically analyze and predict the choices that the average cybersecurity worker would make on a daily basis.

Overall, Illuminate x Markham really stuck out to me as one of the best leadership/business conferences I have been to. Through the amazing keynote speakers to the hard work each of the leads put into today, it was truly an amazing experience.
