Hi everyone! My name is Moodra Shah and I am a Grade 11 student at Woburn CI. Today, I had the pleasure to attend Illuminate x Durham’s regional conference. Here are my thoughts highlighting what I learned from the workshops today!
Throughout Dr.Cecile Fradin’s workshop, she covered such a variety of topics, in such captivating and interactive ways, as she engaged with us students via polls. She gave us a summary of 3 different projects her students were working on, and these projects really stood out to me as I love the life sciences. It allowed me to take a look into my future as it is definitely something I’d like to take on. My favourite part was the Magnetotactic bacteria. It gave me the opportunity to learn so much, in such a little time. Another great takeaway from today’s conference was, I don’t have to be good at everything all the time. It is okay, to be absolutely terrible at something and still want to pursue it in the future. As long as we are passionate about a topic, we always find ways to better ourselves and strengthen our knowledge.
This conference overall was such a great opportunity to learn so many new things while finding myself. I not only learned about new topics but also start to acknowledge new aspects of myself. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
