Illuminate x Durham

Hi everyone! My name is Thamira Seralathan and I am a grade 10 student at Lester B Pearson CI. Today I had the pleasure of attending a meeting for the Illuminate x Durham’s regional conference. My thoughts highlighting what I learned from Alina Hunag’s wonderful presentation and workshop is that leadership and the way we set our minds are key to being successful. We all have our flaws, but if we set our minds, take all steps we possibly can to reach them, and tell ourselves that we can do it, then we can achieve our goals. She also taught us that our mindsets can either be “sage” (positive state) or “saboteur” (negative state). This allowed me to realize that I have to be the one to change my “saboteur” mindset which discourages me, into a “sage” mindset that encourages me in any situation. One thing I loved about today’s workshop is the group activity where we had to use 2 pictures to create a business because it shows how different and creative everyone can be! Overall, I had a great time meeting Alina and learning more about the business world as I believe this experience will be very useful for me in the future.
