How to Make Your Dreamcatcher

This weekend, I got the privilege to attend Illuminate’s Think Tank with Mash Chowdhury, a cybersecurity consultant at Deloitte , as part of Illuminate’s Associate National Lead program. I was extremely inspired and would like to take the opportunity to share what I learned with my Linkedin platform.

Mash gave us a lot of tips and advices on how to make ourselves successful in job hunting.

These are the four laws you should always remember when it comes to building your career:

1. First impression is everything

Nobody will talk to you unless they realize you're worth their time.

If you want to maintain a connection, don't make it obvious that you are just using them to get a job.

2. Your own feet > connections

Your parents, teachers and connections cannot get you into your organization.

People will know whether or not you have the skills to qualify for the job.

Stand on your own two feet!

3. Customization

Don't use the same cover letter or resume for every job you apply for.

Aim for the specific job, not just a job in general.

It is important to customize your resumes.

4. A+ for Effort

Hard work always pay off.

You will never be successful if you are not willing to work hard for it.

Moreover, act on the things you learn. Always.

Mash also gave us a lot of useful tips on how to manage our LinkedIn account. This includes getting a good photo, a brief about me section, and always using point form. Don't lose people's interests in the sea of text.

In addition, we also get to learn how to look for jobs on the Internet, as well as how to ask someone to mentor us on LinkedIn.

In short, Mash's presentation is an eye-opener to the world of building our careers, as well as steps on how to get there.
