Thoughts & Highlights from My NHBC Experience
Hi everyone! My name is Viola Weng and I am a Grade 10 student at Garth Webb Secondary School. Yesterday I had the opportunity of attending the National High School Business Conference. Here are my thoughts highlighting what I learned about sage and saboteur muscles, and the importance of having strong soft skills. I learned about the negative impacts of activating your saboteur muscles and the importance of reducing them to immerse myself in a more positive, productive, and sanguine mindset. I learned how reducing saboteur muscles and activating sage muscles help an individual to work more efficiently and improve the quality of their work, as well as their personal attitudes towards challenges and introspection. Furthermore, attending the workshop that discussed soft skills introduced me to multiple crucial values found in a good leader and how possessing these skills helps one connect better with colleagues/other teammates. I learned how possessing these qualities allows a leader to possess elevated communication and leadership skills in a group setting. In addition, I also enjoyed listening to the guest speaker. It was really interesting to hear the perspective of someone working in the industry, specifically forensic accounting. I found the personal experiences and stories he shared to be very fascinating and intriguing. Finally, I really enjoyed the panel discussion. Most of all, I appreciated the discussion on the importance of remaining confident in your chosen pathway and interests, and not allowing negative comments or disapproval from others to become a roadblock. This discussion was very inspiring to me and it motivated myself and I’m sure many others to remain ambitious, resilient, and to go after their goals regardless of the attitudes presented by others. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had, it was a truly eye opening, and educational experience, thank you for having me Illuminate Universe!
