Illuminating the Illuminate Universe

Hi Everyone! My name is Jacob Kranjac and I am a Grade 10 student at Bishop Paul Francis Redding Catholic Secondary School in Milton. Today, I had the pleasure to attend the Illuminate National High School Leadership Conference with over 170 students globally. Here is my blog which strives to highlight what I learned about management, and collaboration.

We had an amazing opening keynote today at the National High School Leadership Conference, the speaker was Ileana. She told us her amazing story about how she got to where she is today. I learned that following your interest is key and to take the opportunities handed to you. I learned that even going into post-secondary schooling you still get to change your mind about what you want to do.

My first workshop was a bit crazy, but we got to hear a even crazier story by Alina and how she got to where she is. I learned vulurability isn't a bad thing, to be honest and other helpful interview tips. Her story reinforced my personal beliefs of its ok that you have setbacks but if you work hard you can still catch up to where you want to be. This was such an important lesson and I took it to heart, as someone that holds myself to a high standard this lesson exposed me to reality and brought about the realization that not everyones perfect.

My second workshop was also phenomenal, it touched on what I was learning in school. It talked all about finances and assets and it was so great learning about how with hard work I can really make something out of nothing.

The second keynote by a Deloitte Partner, Carmen Wade highlighted 6 insightful and wise tips to use throughout life. These tips were absolutely amazing and something I can definitely will use in everyday life. Some of the lessons were to take offers of help, don't judge, actively include, don't assume, ask for help, and realize the value of trust, and the reality of time.

The CPA challenge pushed me and my team to the limit, as the team leader I had to work hard to not only be apart of the team but to manage it as well and keep it on task. As a team we came up with an amazing idea and made details about it. However there is no way I could've done that alone. That is a lesson that I believe applies to all entrepreneurs, you can't do anything alone. This is something that I know I will remember for the rest of my life.

Next year I'm looking forward to taking a more active role in my classes and extra-curriculuars. I plan on sharing these lessons to elevate those around me so as a collective myself and my peers can be better. I will also be looking more at a business designation such as CPA, and post-secondary programs that were mentioned and I now know more about.

Never stop learning. I learned so much today, and even the speakers talked about still learning, we can always further ourselves with knowledge and after today that is a lesson hammered into my brain for good.
