Illuminate X Durham: A Remarkable Experience!

Hi everyone! My name is Jeeviga Yasokaran and I am a Grade 10 student at Sir Wilfrid Laurier C.I. Last week, I had the pleasure to attend Illuminate x Durham’s meeting where I was able to learn more about leadership and maintaining a healthy mindset. Here are my thoughts highlighting what I learned from the founder of Illuminate Universe, Alina Huang. Being a successful leader involves being committed, passionate and cheerful. However, a poor mindset would dampen our overall enthusiasm and motivation.

There are two ways of approaching a task; with a sage mindset or a saboteur mindset. Having a sage mindset allows one to be positive and willing to undertake a task. On the contrary, a saboteur mindset would make you feel incapable and miserable when completing the exact same task. How we approach a problem will determine how triumphant our outcome will be. Alina helped me realize the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and mental wellbeing. When partaking in new tasks, despite the challenge it might pose, it’s essential to always keep your head up and strive to exceed your potential. What I enjoyed most in the session was the opportunity to collaborate with other peers and create a business proposal. The opportunity to meet new people and unleash my creativity was truly an exhilarating experience. My major takeaway from Alina’s presentation was to embrace my abilities and showcase my strengths in a vibrant and positive manner. Overall, it was a great learning experience!
