About the Event
The Scarborough Purple People brings you a virtual experience sponsored by Illuminate Universe. Our conference will bring together students from all around Scarborough and the GTA virtually on September 11, 2021, for an engaging event with speakers, workshops, mentors, and competitions in an attempt to extract the potential hidden within all of you.
Students will be in teams of 4 - 5 and participate in engaging activities such as interactive workshops, and our very exciting case study. All teams will have a week to complete their case studies, and are to present their findings on the conference day.
So save the date, as on September 11th we will Jump into the Future of Purple People and Leadership. Note that this is not exclusive to people in the business and technology field, we encourage all to sign up, and together we can break barriers.

Naveena Avani Rajcumar
Co-chair and finance director
Hey there! My name is Naveena Avani Rajcumar, and I am the Co-chair and Finance Director of the Illuminate x Scarborough conference. I am a grade 11 student at Lester B. Pearson CI. I am very extroverted and I love Pizza and Lasagna. I kid you not, if you have pizza and classic video games, I am your new friend. Currently I am a consultant at Illuminate Universe, and I am in their Academy program. In the future I want to go into the Business/Finance field. Co-chair and MARKETING/OUTREACH DIRECTOR
Hi everyone! My name is Thamira Seralathan and I’m a grade 11 student at Lester B. Pearson CI. I am also the Co-chair and Marketing/Outreach Director of the Illuminate x Scarborough Conference. Some of my interests are watching tv shows and movies, spending time with family and friends, and cooking/baking. I’d consider myself an extroverted person as I love to meet new people. I don’t really know what I want to purse for a career as of yet, but I do have some ideas so I guess time will have to tell. Fhatma Hyder
MARKETING DIRECTOR
Hello, my name is Fhatma Hyder and I am currently a grade 11 student at Sir Wilfred Laurier CI as well as the Marketing Director for Illuminate x Scarborough conference! I enjoy physical activities such as sports, exercise and dancing. I’d consider myself very extroverted as I love meeting new people and experiencing new things with my friends. I’m interested in pursuing a career in business. Currently I am volunteering online for two programs and I aim to graduate with 200+ hours. I’d very much like to include as many extracurricular on my resume as possible and this seems like an amazing opportunity as well as a learning experience. I can’t wait to meet all of you!

Hi! My name is Jahnae Lyttle and I’m a grade 11 student currently attending Lester B. Pearson CI. I am also the Recruitment and Registration Director for the Illuminate x Scarborough Conference. I enjoy fashion and making art that represents people that look like me. For the past year, I’ve been working+volunteering at a non-profit black youth organization; I have a lot of experience in facilitation and collaborating with others in a professional environment. I’m interested in finding more opportunities to expand my skill set and further improve at what I’m good at, as well as learning new things. I’m excited to be apart of this conference and to experience it with you all.

If you don't have a team of 4 - 5, we will assign other students to your team.
How many people will be on each team?
Any individual registrants or teams with less than five people will be merged together with others to ensure all teams have at least four people.

Registration forms are open for you now. We prefer that you register A.S.A.P. The deadline for the form is on September 2nd.

What happens if I miss the team registration deadline?
When does Team Registration happen? How do I register my team?
Registration forms can be accessed in this link.(https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-scarborough-conference-purple-people-tickets-166978660669) This form will ask for your names, emails for contact, and your team members.
The deadline to complete the Google Form will be September 2nd at 11:59 pm.
Please note that if you do not provide the names of your team members, you will be assigned to a team by random.
All team members need to each purchase a ticket by September 2nd.

Do I need to purchase a ticket?
Each team will elect a “Team Leader” on the Team Registration form (to be released). They will then receive information from Illuminate through email (event reminders, case details, etc.).

How will communications work?

or check out our google classroom. Our classroom will have regular updates about the event to ensure that you feel as prepared as possible!
Where can I go to get information?
The conference will begin with an opening key note, we will then transition into our first workshop with a speaker from the Business/Technology field. Afterwards we will go into lunch and then enter another workshop. Our workshops will be interactive and as fun as possible. Then we will go into our case study presentations, and finish the day with a closing/award ceremony.
What can I expect at the conference?
Yes, all attendees will be participating in a case study that will be released through email and on the google classroom on September 3rd, 2021.
You will have ONE WEEK to complete your case study and will then present it to the audience + a panel of judges. A prize will be awarded to first place team chosen by the panel of judges, as well as, people’s choice awards that will be chosen by the audience and presented to the winners the day of.

In our increasingly competitive world, students are taking more and more steps to find opportunities to set them apart. However, there is one constant issue: the financial cost of choosing to pursue these opportunities is quite high for many. So, we decided to introduce the Class Pass Initiative at Illuminate, which allows teachers and educators to help students to maximize their potential without facing those prices.
With the Class Pass, we are working towards lowering the opportunity cost of excellence. The Class Pass allows teachers to purchase bundles of Illuminate Business Conference tickets, and grant them to students at a lower price. There are three tiers of the class pass, which are as follows.
Tier 1 (15 tickets): 10% off
Tier 2 (25 tickets): 20% off
Tier 3 (35 or more tickets): 25% off
